Article 37 reaffirms the importance of the role of the Data Protection Officer (DPO). Indeed, the importance of appointing a DPO was confirmed by the European Data Protection Supervisor when they stated that “the Data Protection Officer is fundamental in insuring the respect of data protection principles within institutions/bodies”.
